    Social Security Benifits for Vets

Great info about an increase in social security benefits for ANY active
duty service between 1940 and 2001, retirement not required. You must
file to get the benefit, it's not automatic. Please share this with
anyone who's had active duty service prior to January 2002 and planning
for retirement. In a nutshell it boils down to this: You qualify for a
higher social security payment because of your military service, for
active duty any time from 1940 through 2001 (the program was done away
with in January 2002). Up to $1200 per year of earnings credit credited
at time of application - which can make a substantial difference in
social security monthly payments upon your retirement.

You must bring your DD-214 to the Social Security Office - and you must
ask for this benefit to receive it! Soc Sec website:
    http://www.ssa.gov/retire2/military.htm
    <http://www.ssa.gov/retire2/military.htm>

This is something to put in your files for when you apply for
    Social
Security down the road. It is NOT just for retirees, BUT anyone who has
served on active duty prior to January 2002. FYI - this benefit is not
automatic, you must ask for it!

According to the site, my service started in 67, then ended in 88. Everything is automatically applied to my account? Where does it say we must "apply" for it to be applied?

The social security website details that when applying you must let them know at the time you fill out your application that you are a vet. So during your documentation submission is when you must disclose this. They will not automatically include this.

    Hope this helps.......

I am in the WTB and have 24 years of servive, active, guard mix. and I returned from afghanistan and had suffered several injuries. I have had 4 surgeries: right Knee, Right Shoulder, Fusion of the L-3/4, first bone graph failed, second added new hardware and more bone graph stuff ( Bondo) lol. I have lost all my Hign tone hearing and have two hearing aids now. I have been diagnosed weith Moderate PTSD and Take meds Daily for it. So I have beend told I can put in for SSD, SSD did not want to take my app at first, then changed thier mind when I spoke to a supervisor. As it stands, with my current status on active duty, will it get approved? I was told by my casemanager to get the SSD before my MEB and VA board hearings. Any help and advise would be welcomed.

While I'm very sorry about the injuries you sustain, make no mistake that you will recover; In terms of the social security benifit that I mention in ths thread it is more for retirees more so than and for disability. However, I would recommend that you check out the www.VA.gov website as I believe they have a lot more information and asssitance for disability benifits on it.

Best of luck pal and thank you for your service...............
